Removable restorations

Removable restorations:

  • Skeletal plate denture - is usually cast from metal and teeth are attached to it. It is supported by the patient's teeth, which makes it hold better. The denture allows for the restoration of several to a dozen teeth.
  • Complete denture - made of acrylic, it can restore from one to all teeth.
  • Acetal denture – is made of a semi-flexible material that to some extent adapts to the shape of the oral cavity. Thanks to this, it is much more resistant to deformation.

Fixed restorations:

  • Veneers – used primarily to improve or change the shape or color of a tooth. They are placed on the outer side of the tooth. Veneers - see how the veneer placement procedure is performed at the Adenta Clinic in Opole.
  • Inlay, Onlay – a composite tooth restoration that makes the tooth look as if there was never any caries in it, and the material from which it is made is very durable and aesthetic.
  • Crowns – made in the case of severe tooth damage to improve the color, shape or strengthen the tooth.
  • Bridges – allow us to restore the gaps of one to several teeth on one side. Sometimes bridges are combined into one whole "horseshoe" to strengthen the pillars. The teeth around the gap are ground.

Prosthetic treatment - from what age and for whom?

It is well known that children are still growing and their maxilla and mandible are still developing, therefore it is not recommended to make permanent restorations. At this age, we use temporary or removable restorations that are replaced as the shape of the dental arches changes. Fixed restorations are usually used after the age of 18.

How is prosthetic treatment performed?

At the beginning, we save damaged teeth, then we use high-quality materials to make a restoration that allows the tooth to be preserved. The main goal of prosthetic treatment is to restore lost teeth or reconstruct the entire jaw.

How to prepare for prosthetic treatment?

  1. Surgical preparation – usually the remnants of teeth unsuitable for treatment are removed and the ground for future prosthetic restorations is prepared.
  2. Conservative preparation – all carious lesions must be treated and leaking fillings replaced
  3. Periodontal preparation – a professional teeth cleaning procedure must be performed. Eliminate dental plaque, tartar and instruct the patient on how to care for oral hygiene.
  4. Mental preparation – preparing the patient, instructing them about the benefits and changes that will occur while wearing prosthetic restorations.
